Welcome to Provecho Peru! I am Gretchen Noelle, an American living in Peru. My love of food was cultivated early on by my family but has come alive while living in Peru. During the 10 years of living in Lima, Peru, I have also enjoyed numerous trips to other areas of the country.
Here on Provecho Peru you will find Peruvian recipes in English, American favorites prepared overseas, news about Peruvian Cuisine and interesting tidbits about life in Peru. Read the story behind the name and how Provecho Peru was started.
The recipes here are ones that have been made in my own kitchen and come from family traditions, cookbooks, or are ideas that I dreamt up when I should have been sleeping! I am definitely aware that even within Peru, many dishes are prepared in different ways but with the same name. I do hope to prepare and post about all the different versions at some point.
I do try to give tips and ideas of how to make the recipes for those that live in Peru as well as those that live in the US, based on where I live. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with ingredients in your country or region to give suggestions to cover everyone. If you are having difficulty finding something, please contact me and I can try to assist you in a “workaround” or give suggestions where you might find it.
You can find a Complete Recipe Index or various categories for foods found here on Provecho Peru like Desserts, Breads and Main Dishes. A text-only version of the recipe may be printed out on recipes which contain a Print button to do so. If you find a recipe without that button, please let me know as some of the earliest were not formatted to include the print button, but I am working to update them.
The photos on Provecho Peru were taken by yours truly unless otherwise noted. Most of the photos have been taken with a Canon Rebel xsi using a variety of lenses, the most common being the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 and the Canon 50mm f/1.8. While I do try to photograph food with natural light, the 8 months of overcast weather do force me to get creative with lighting and I have recently begun to use a Canon Speedlight 430 EX.
